Triggered to Together
Somatic Self-Regulating Skills to Stay Connected, Calm, and Communicating
Tired of reacting in ways that mean you angrily ‘lose your sh*t!’ or collapse into ‘sulky silence’?
Without the skills to meet triggers, our reactivity can quickly derail conversations, destroy the day, the deal, the vacation, eroding the sense of trust in our relationships.
The good news? It doesn’t have to be this way.
Using a somatic approach that cultivates shared emotional and relational safety, even when it feels impossible, Gemini Adams, Embodiment Educator and Trauma Recovery Specialist, has helped thousands learn to Resource, Reduce, Regulate, and Respond – in a way that promotes calm, connection, and the ability to remain in communication.
Bored of being in stress, stuck, or survival mode?
Triggers arise constantly. We can’t avoid them: noise, traffic, access to money, sleep, food, or the way others behave – a tone of voice, a look, their absence, or the way they engage with their phone, laptop, or a particular person.
One minute we’re calm, focused, and content, then ‘bing’ we flip into stress or survival:
Flight – anxiety takes over
Fight – anger erupts
Freeze – we shut down quietly
Fawn – we slip into shame
Unfortunately, in all of these states, our capacity to relate well disappears.
Frustrated with losing the ability to listen or respond patiently?
Especially when unresolved wounds from the past hijack the present – flooding our adult self with the vulnerability and emotional unpredictability of our inner child.
If there’s a history of an overbearing, violent, or absent parent, triggers often switch on unhealthy coping strategies, like people-pleasing or bullying. As we attempt to maintain power, we abandon needs and lose connection to our authentic selves and others.
An intense flood of fear rises inside, twisting our tummy and crushing our ability to speak up for our rights, boundaries, or innermost desires.
Perhaps we shout and say things we shouldn’t because Mom or Dad didn’t know how to de-escalate the sense of threat, and we simply inherited their approach.
Few of us learned the specific skills to respond well to triggers.
No one explained that bodily sensations are the powerful clues to what’s bubbling beneath the surface, or that we might be numb to our felt sense; yet it’s this interoceptive awareness that is key to becoming relationally safe.
So we just get stuck, feeling frustrated. Until we learn to do things differently.
Rewire your reactivity and reduce relational rupture
This life-changing 12-week program, Triggered to Together, is shared in 3 modules, designed to completely shift your nervous system consistently over the three months. All that’s required is just 3.5 hours of your time each week:
* 90 mins live online classes (every Tuesday x 12)
* 30 mins reflective homework exercise (once a week x 12)
* 15 mins self-paced daily practice prompts (for each of the 90 days)
Module 1
* We begin by exploring the felt sense and embodied safety – with a focus on expanding our interoceptive awareness. This is key to noticing the sensations linked to stress and survival states, so you’ll know when you’re moving in the direction of triggered, and can do something about it!
* We start to learn the behaviors and signs associated with Flight, Fight, Freeze, and Fawn, and try on the somatic self-regulation skills that effectively de-escalate us from these states. We identify helpful resources that we can use to reduce activation while we are practicing and mastering the somatic skills.
Module 2
* We focus on tracking our reactivity in real time, to notice frequency and intensity, and master the art of recognizing the state we are in through sensation. This gives us the potential to begin to reduce, resource and regulate.
* We spend the majority of this module embodying the self-regulation skills until they become second nature. You’ll receive audio-guides so you can work with triggers in real time, applying the correct self-regulation method with ease, to regulate quickly and get results between the classes.
Module 3
* In the final module, we bring it all together: mastering the art of noticing sensation and state, then applying the appropriate somatic skill – so that we can easily shift gears, developing our ability to Resource, Reduce, Regulate, and Respond so we can communicate calmly and clearly, sustain emotional safety, and invite harmony into our relationships.
